Dirtbags Add Another Prep Standout
July 30, 2014
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Head coach Troy Buckley announced the signing of Keola Paragas to a National Letter of Intent to join the Long Beach State Dirtbags. Paragas signed the NLI after a standout senior season at Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nev.
Paragas excelled both on the mound and at the plate as a senior and grabbed the Nevada State Player of the Year honors from the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The left-hander pitched just a few innings as a junior due to injury but came back with a dominating senior year.
"We are excited to add Keola to our program. He had a fantastic senior year on both the pitching and offensive side of the ball," commented Buckley. "He is very competitive, external, athletic and talented, which will translate to aiding us as a pitcher and outfielder."
The Dirtbags late signee dominated on the mound to the tune of an 8-3 record and a 1.29 ERA. He had 79 strikeouts in 65 innings pitched and threw eight complete games.
At the plate, Paragas was a middle of the order hitter for Green Valley. He hit .382 with 22 extra-base hits and 36 runs batted in. He smacked 13 doubles, four triples and five homers.
Paragas will join the Dirtbags for the 2015 season and joins a class of nine more prep signees and five junior college transfers.
