David Banuelos Earns ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-American Honors
LBSU’s junior catcher added to his impressive list of postseason accolades with an All-America nod from the ABCA.
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The American Baseball Writers Association (ABCA) released its All-American teams on Saturday, and Long Beach State’s David Banuelos was listed as the catcher on the second team. For the junior Banuelos, this is his third All-American nod this offseason, after earning First Team All-American status from Baseball America and earning Honorable Mention status from Perfect Game.
Banuelos was previously honored as a First Team All-West Region selection by the ABCA, and improves upon that by making an All-American team. The reigning Big West Defensive Player of the Year is also in the running for a spot on the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Teams, which will be announced on Wednesday, June 21.
Banuelos is now tied with RHP Darren McCaughan with three All-American nods this offseason for the Dirtbags. Both players were drafted by the Seattle Mariners last week, with Banuelos going in the 5th Round and McCaughan going in Round 12. This is also the second consecutive season that LBSU has had a player named a Second Team All-American by the ABCA, after McCaughan earned that distinction last year.
