Long Beach, Calif. - Dirtbags head baseball coach Troy Buckley has announced the intention of David Hill and Jonathan Serven to attend Long Beach State beginning in the 2013 season, as both had signed national letters of intent.

"We are very excited to be adding Jonathan and David to our program," noted Buckley. "Jonathan is an athletic infielder who has a physical presence coupled with an exciting amount of projection, while David is a competitive right-handed pitcher who possesses above average arm speed and an excellent sense of how to pitch. Jonathan and David add to an excellent recruiting class that Jesse Zepeda and Shawn Gilbert have put together."

David Hill becomes the third member of the Hill family to join the Long Beach State program, following in the footsteps of current infielder Michael and former catcher John in a Dirtbags uniform, though the first coming to Long Beach State as a pitcher.

Pitching for El Modena High School in Orange, Hill has posted a 5-2 record with a 1.03 ERA, 61 strikeouts and two saves for the Vangards as of last week. An athletic, aggressive pitcher that can reach the low to mid-90s with his fastball, Hill also has excellent breaking pitches and can make an immediate impact as a freshman on the mound for the Dirtbags.

Long Beach State also adds an outstanding infielder in Jonathan Serven. A tremendous two-sport athlete out of Palm Desert High School in Palm Desert, Serven is the career-scoring leader at Palm Desert with 1,433 points, and scored 620 points in his senior season with the Aztecs. Meanwhile, the senior is hitting .326 with two home runs and five doubles out on the diamond.

A physical presence, Serven is also an excellent defender that can play any infield position, though the senior is a shortstop this season at Palm Desert. An intriguing player, Serven has a high ceiling for his time with Long Beach State and beyond.

The pair joins an excellent seven-member signing class from the fall, which includes Ryan McNeil, J.C. Cloney, Alex DeGoti, Eric Hutting, Zach Rivera, Shane Carle, and Ryan Millison.
