Brock Lundquist Named Big West Player of the Week
Brock Lundquist picks up his first career Big West Player of the Week honor after hitting .500 last week.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Batting in the leadoff spot for the first time all season, junior Brock Lundquist had a terrific showing for the Dirtbags last week, going 9-for-18 (.500) in five games on the road. On Monday, Lundquist was named the Big West Field Player of the Week by the conference office, joining Lucas Tancas as weekly award winners this season.
Lundquist hit a pair of home runs last week, both to lead off the game. He went yard in the first at bat against Stanford, then in LBSU’s next game, sent the first pitch of Big West play over the right field fence against UC Santa Barbara. The Fountain Valley native also scored six runs and had seven RBIs on the week, with six of them coming during the UCSB series.
In Saturday’s win, Lundquist had three RBIs to match his career high, then on Sunday he set a new career best with two stolen bases against the Gauchos. Lundquist is now a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts this season. Four of his nine hits last week went for extra bases, as he added a double and a triple to his two leadoff bombs. That gave him a slugging percentage of 1.000 during the five games last week with an OPS of 1.591. The junior also had three walks, a sacrifice bunt, and played solid defense in right field.
This is LBSU’s second weekly award of the year, after Tancas picked up this honor on Mar. 20. The Dirtbags are back in action on Tuesday night at Blair Field, hosting USC at 6 p.m.
