LONG BEACH, Calif. - John McConnell, the original head coach at Long Beach State, will celebrate the start of the Dirtbags' new season as the keynote speaker at the Leadoff Event. McConnell will join the Dirtbags at the annual Leadoff Event on Jan. 23 as part of the Alumni Weekend that also includes a golf tournament and an alumni game.

He served as the Chair of the department, was a Student Teacher Coordinator and was the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Applied Arts and Sciences. He retired in 1986 but remains involved on campus.
