Dirtbags run win streak to four against Pepperdine

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State picked up a fourth straight win, defeating Pepperdine 10-5 on Tuesday night. The Dirtbags stole five bases and dropped three sacrifice hits to manufacture 10 runs on 12 hits.
The Dirtbags had five players with two hits, led by TJ Mittelstaedt who drove in three runs with a single, a double and a sacrifice fly.
Both teams traded runs early. A walk by Brennan Metzger set up the Dirtbags in the first, as the freshman came around to score in Mittelstaedt's first hit. The Waves answered back with a run in the second, but Long Beach State scored two more in the second on a sacrifice fly and a Tre Dennis single to take a 3-1 lead.
Pepperdine answered by scoring three runs over the third and fourth innings, the capper coming from an RBI double by Nate Johnson in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. The Dirtbags tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, as Jonathan Jones came around to score after a leadoff hit, moving around on a sacrifice, a bunt, and a single.
Long Beach State took over from there, scoring two runs each in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, utilizing sacrifice flies, stolen bases and doubles from Mittelstaedt, Steve Tinoco and Taylor Krick.
On the mound, David Brown had entered to shut down the Waves rally in the fourth, and pitched for three more innings, allowing just three hits and one run, coming on a homer from Johnson in the seventh.
Long Beach State continues conference play this weekend, traveling to UC Santa Barbara for a three-game series. All three games will be played in the afternoon, with the first coming on Friday, May 8 at 2 p.m.
