LONG BEACH, Calif. - An eight-run second inning was more than enough for Long Beach State (19-11, 4-1 Big West) on Saturday afternoon at Blair Field as the Dirtbags clinched a series win over UC Riverside (12-14, 1-4 Big West) with an 11-4 win. Lucas Tancas led the offense with three hits and four RBIs, hitting a pair of doubles and a home run in the win. John Sheaks improved to 4-1 throwing seven innings of two-hit ball, allowing just one run with five strikeouts.

LBSU is now 11-1 at Blair Field this season and has won five games in a row. UC Riverside didn’t score through the first six innings, extending the Dirtbags’ scoreless innings streak to 25 consecutive innings before it was snapped.

Tancas started off the explosive second frame with a solo home run to left field; his fourth bomb of the season to tie for the team lead. That started a run of six straight Dirtbags to reach base to start the inning, as Domenic Colacchio had an RBI single and Laine Huffman drew a bases loaded walk with no outs. Tancas added his second hit of the inning with a two-run double and scored on a Daniel Jackson RBI single to cap off the rally and make it 8-0 Long Beach State.

The eight runs were the most in an inning for the Dirtbags this season and the 11 runs are a season high. LBSU had only scored eight or more runs in a game six times entering Saturday.

The Dirtbags added three more runs in the fourth inning, starting with a Jarren Duran RBI single. Tancas added an RBI double and Ramsey Romano lined an RBI single to right field to make it 11-0. Sheaks faced just two over the minimum in his first six innings and needed just 80 pitches to cover the 7.0 innings.

LBSU will look for the sweep on Sunday as RHP Dave Smith (2-1, 0.84 ERA) will take the ball, going up against RHP Ryan Lillie (0-3, 3.80 ERA). First pitch at Blair Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
