Long Beach, Calif. - Shane Carle surrendered three hits over 6.2 innings, but Thomas Eshelman and J.D. Davis combined for a two-hit shutout as No. 8 Cal State Fullerton defeated Long Beach State 6-0 on Friday.

Carle finished with five strikeouts to lead Long Beach State, but gave up a solo home run in the second inning to Michael Lorenzen in what proved to be the winning run on Friday. The Titans added one more in the third inning following an Austin Diemer single and a sacrifice on an RBI by Carlos Lopez.

Cal State Fullerton (19-3) picked up one more run on Carle in the seventh inning, scoring an unearned run without a hit on an error from Michael Hill.

Meanwhile, the Long Beach State (9-13) bats were stifled by Thomas Eshelman, who had no walks or strikeouts but was very efficient, allowing just one hit to Eric Hutting over seven innings on 62 pitches, while J.D. Davis threw two innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts to finish off the game.

The Titans score three runs off of the LBSU bullpen in the eighth inning, accounting for the six-run final margin.

The rivalry continues tomorrow as the Dirtbags host the Titans for game two at 2 p.m. in Blair Field.
