Fullerton, Calif. - Senior Shawn Stuart threw 5.2 scoreless inning against No. 8 Cal State Fullerton on the road, but a pair of late runs gave the Titans a 2-1 win over Long Beach State in the first game of a non-conference series Friday afternoon.

Long Beach State's Stuart showed good control, holding the Titans scoreless despite a number of opportunities, working just over five innings, striking out four and allowing no runs as the Dirtbags held the lead for most of the game.

Ino Patron singled to start off the second inning, and after a fielder's choice swapped out runners for Brennan Metzger, who stole second base for his sixth steal of the year. He then scored on a single by Michael Hill to give the Dirtbags a 2-1 lead.

That would hold through a couple of Titans rallies, until the eighth inning. Derek Legg reached base on a HBP call on a swinging bunt, which kickstarted a Titans rally. Two singles then loaded the bases, and a third hit in the inning from Richy Pedroza scored a pair of runs, setting the score at 2-1.

Johnny Bekakis had a pinch-hit single against Michael Lorenzen in the ninth inning, but the sophomore had no other damange in converting his seventh save of the season.

Long Beach State and the Titans play the second game of a day-night doubleheader beginning at 7 p.m.
