Dirtbags Stumble in Series Finale at No. 7 TCU
Long Beach State dropped the final game of its series at No. 7 TCU. Freshman Santino Rivera tied the game with a two-run single in the fourth, but LBSU was unable to score again in a 5-2 defeat.
FORT WORTH, Tex. - The Dirtbags were able to erase a first-inning deficit for the third game in a row, but ultimately fell short in a 5-2 loss at No. 7 TCU on Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium. The loss drops Long Beach State to 2-5 on the season while the Horned Frogs improve to 4-2.

LBSU fell behind 2-0 in the first inning but stayed persistent, putting at least one runner on base in every inning. That resiliency paid off with a clutch hit in the fourth inning as freshman Santino Rivera delivered a two-out, two-run single to right to score Luke Rasmussen and Domenic Colacchio to tie the game, 2-2.
TCU immediately responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, and led 5-2 heading to the ninth. Again the Dirtbags wouldn’t roll over, and loaded the bases thanks to singles by Tristan Mercadel, Antonio Torres and Steven Rivas. The rally would ultimately fall short, but the Dirtbags ended up with nine hits on the day as the offense started to come alive.
Sebastian Sanchez was effective in relief, covering the final two innings while not allowing a baserunner and collecting four strikeouts.
Long Beach State will return home for a difficult six-game homestand, starting Tuesday for the first of two consecutive games against Arizona State. First pitch on Tuesday night is schedule for 6 p.m. at Blair Field.
