LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Dirtbags fell to 1-1 on Saturday with a 6-2 loss against Saint Mary's at Blair Field. LBSU got in a 1-0 hole early, but immediately tied the game in the bottom of the second frame. However, the visiting Gaels responded with four runs in the top of the third to take the lead for good and even the season-opening series.

Senior Sebastian Sanchez entered the game in the third inning and pitched well in relief, going 4.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits to stabilize the game. Freshman Jake Lopez made his Dirtbags debut, covering the final two frames allowing no runs on a hit and a walk.

Offensively, Brooks Stotler was 2-for-4 with an RBI, which scored Laine Huffman to tie the game in the second. Huffman was also 2-for-4 on the afternoon. The Dirtbags chipped away with another run in the fifth, as Jarren Duran's RBI grounder scored Garrett Nelson, but they couldn't get any closer.

Long Beach State will look to win the series in Sunday's rubber match, as Clayton Andrews is set to make his first appearance on the mound for the Dirtbags. The junior southpaw will be opposed by SMC lefthander Ken Waldichuk. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
