Long Beach State had three players named to the ABCA West All-Region Team, led by David Banuelos on the first team.


McCaughan Leads Dirtbags to 3-0 Win Over Fullerton

LBSU took Game 1 of the Long Beach Super Regional, 3-0, earning its 12th shutout win of the season.

Team USA (2016): Became the 12th player in Long Beach State history to compete for the Team USA Collegiate National Team … went on an international tour in Taiwan, Japan and Cuba as Team USA posted a record of 11-7-1 … pitched 3.0 total innings in his four appearances, earning the save in a 3-2 win over Chinese Taipei on July 7 … struck out four batters without issuing a walk … eluded a no-out, bases-loaded jam in his first inning of work, in an exhibition game vs. the UYA Barons on July 2 … worked under the guidance of legendary Dirtbags coach Dave Snow, who served as Team USA’s pitching coach.

Long Beach State (2016): ABCA All-America Second Team ... Louisville Slugger All-America Second Team ... 2016 Big West Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Big West ... ABCA West All-Region ... one of 60 players in the country included on the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List ... two-time Big West Pitcher of the Week (Apr. 11, May 16) ... made 16 starts, finishing the year with a 10-1 record, a 2.03 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 84 strikeouts in 111.0 innings pitched ... first 10-game winner at LBSU since Cesar Ramos in 2005 ... delivered 14 quality starts out of 16 ... allowed more than three runs just once, Apr. 23 at UC Riverside ... surrendered multiple walks just twice in 16 starts, but did hit three batters in a game on three separate occasions ... started Opening Night against Holy Cross (Feb. 19) and pitched seven strong innings to pick up the win ... faced the minimum through 7.1 innings in his second start against Arizona State (Feb. 28), ended up allowing two hits and picking up another victory ... held Nebraska scoreless through seven innings (Mar. 5) in what turned out to be a 1-0 Dirtbags win in 13 innings ... in the second game of a Sunday doubleheader at CSUN (Apr. 10), threw seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out a career-best 10 hitters in a 12-0 LBSU win ... tossed eight scoreless innings allowing just four hits against Cal Poly (Apr. 30) ... threw a gem against San Jose State (May 14), recording his first complete game, allowing just one hit and no walks in nine scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

(2015): Made three starts and 20 appearances out of the bullpen ... posted a 2.47 ERA with a 4-2 record ... struck out 46 and walked 13 ... pitched 47.1 innings, including the final two innings of the first no-hitter in Long Beach State history ... made his first appearance out of the bullpen on Feb. 15 with one and two-thirds scoreless innings against Michigan, including two strikeouts ... allowed two unearned runs in an inning and two-thirds on Feb. 17 against Pepperdine ... allowed an unearned run against Utah Valley on Feb. 22 in an inning out of the bullpen ... struck out three in two innings while finishing out the first no-hitter in Long Beach State history on Mar. 1 against Wichita State ... pitched a perfect with one strikeout at Arizona State on Mar. 6 ... struck out two in an inning on Mar. 8 ... struck out four over two and a third innings but allowed three runs (two earned) on Mar. 10 against San Diego State ... pitched all three extra innings against Cal State Fullerton on Mar. 20, striking out four and picking up his first win ... surrendered a run on two hits in an inning at UC Santa Barbara on Mar. 28 ... pitched two scoreless innings against UNLV on Mar .31 ... made his first start at San Diego State on Apr. 6, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four ... tossed a scoreless inning at UC Irvine on Apr. 6 ... allowed three runs (two earned) in a three-inning start at San Diego ... made his final start at LMU on Apr. 21 but allowed three unearned runs in his second loss ... pitched a scoreless inning at Cal Poly on Apr. 24 ... pitched the 12th inning and struck out the side against UCLA on Apr. 28 to get his second win ... pitched three innings out of the bullpen at UNLV on May 5 to pick up the win, allowing only one run ... allowed a run on two hits in an innings at Indiana on May 10 ... pitched a season-high five innings on May 12 against San Diego without allowing a run on four hits while striking out two ... tossed three and a third innings against UC Davis, allowing two runs on five hits and getting his fourth win ... pitched four relief innings at Cal State Fullerton in the finale on May 23, allowing one run on two hits and fanning five.

Los Alamitos High School: An All-Sunset League first team selection in 2014 ... hit .371 as a senior while posting a 3-3 record on the mound ... went 5-3 on the mound as a junior and helped his team to a third-place finish in the Sunset League, as well as a semifinal appearance in the CIF playoffs.

Personal: Son of Sandy and Jeff ... also enjoys fishing and golfing ... majoring in Civil Engineering.
