Long Beach State junior Clayton Andrews was named a Second Team All-American by D1Baseball and the NCBWA, earning the nod as a utility player for the Dirtbags.

A trio of Dirtbags pitchers were drafted Wednesday: Eli Villalobos (14th Round, Marlins), Clayton Andrews (17th Round, Brewers) and Chris Rivera (33rd Round, Cardinals).


Four Dirtbags Earn All-Big West Honors

Long Beach State had four players named to the 2018 All-Big West baseball squad, led by Clayton Andrews who was a first-team selection as a starting pitcher.

Andrews continues to make history, becoming the first player in Big West history to earn four consecutive Big West Pitcher of the Week awards.


Andrews Shuts Out Fullerton as Dirtbags Even Series

Junior Clayton Andrews was terrific on Friday night, tossing a complete game shutout for a 1-0 rivalry win over Cal State Fullerton. He recorded 11 strikeouts with no walks to earn the win.

Cabrillo College: Played two years at Cabrillo College, helping the Seahawks to the 2016 Coast Pacific Conference title ... Named the 2016 Coast Pacific Conference Player of the Year after hitting .410 with a .461 OBP as a freshman, scoring 41 runs and stealing 17 bases ... Made 15 relief appearances, striking out 37 batters in just 19.1 innings ... Was also a 2016 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winner in the outfield ... Had another productive season as a sophomore in 2017, hitting .399 with a .483 OBP, collecting 39 runs and 21 RBIs in 44 games played ... On the mound, made 21 relief appearances as a sophomore, recording a 0.91 ERA in 39.2 innings, striking out 69 batters while collecting nine saves.

Maria Carrillo High School: A four-year varsity letterwinner for the Pumas ... Had his most productive season as a senior in 2015, hitting .396 with 25 runs and 22 RBIs in 26 games played, stealing nine bases and drawing 11 walks with just one strikeout ... Also made 13 appearances on the mound as a senior, posting a 0.58 ERA with an impressive 77 strikeouts in 48.2 innings while allowing just 22 hits and 12 walks ... Named the 2015 All-Empire Large-School Player of the Year by the Santa Rosa Press Democrat ... Also the 2015 North Bay League Player of the Year ... Member of the 2015 CalHiSports All-State Baseball Team ... batted .396 in 2015 ... Was also a three-year letterwinner in basketball.

Personal: Son of Vaughn and Marie ... selected in the 40th round of the 2017 MLB draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers ...
