Joey Sanchez went 5-for-5 and scored the winning run as the Long Beach State Dirtbags evened the series with a 4-3 win over UC Riverside. Sanchez led off the bottom of the tenth with a single and scored the winning run on an error.
A three-run rally proved to be just enough for UC Riverside as the Long Beach State Dirtbags fell 3-2 in Friday's series opener. Both Dirtbags runs came in the first inning while the Highlanders scored all of theirs in the seventh.
Long Beach State returns home to Blair Field for a three-game Big West series with UC Riverside this weekend. The Dirtbags are 15-5 at Blair Field this year and swept their only other Big West series played at home.
Pitcher Branden Pinder was called up by the New York Yankees today to become the 46th Long Beach State alumnus to reach the major leagues. Pinder was added to the Yankees' 40-man roster last summer after making his Triple-A debut in 2014.
