A home-heavy stretch of the 2014 schedule gets underway this weekend as Long Beach State hosts No. 17 UC Santa Barbara in a three-game Big West series. The series will take place Thursday through Saturday this week with the Thursday and Friday games at 6 p.m. and the Saturday game at 2 p.m. UCSB is fresh off a series win over Cal State Fullerton that boosted its record to 22-8 overall and 4-5 in the Big West.
One big inning proved to be the difference as the Long Beach State Dirtbags dropped the series finale 8-4 at UC Davis. The Aggies (16-16, 3-6 Big West) scored seven of their runs during a big third inning and held on the rest of the way for the win.
Josh Frye threw another seven shutout innings and the Long Beach State Dirtbags scored twice late to even the series at UC Davis with a 2-0 win. Ino Patron recorded his 200th career hit in the game, becoming the 11th Dirtbag to hit that career mark and tying Brad Davis for 10th all-time.
There were 26 hits combined hits in the game, but most came off the bat of UC Davis the Long Beach State Dirtbags fell 7-5 in the series opener on Friday. Richard Prigatano was 3-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases in a game that went back and forth a few times before it was settled.
