Follow 49er Olympians in Beijing
49ERS IN BEIJING:
August 11: Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh eased to another victory Tuesday to keep their beach volleyball winning streak alive. The defending Olympic gold medalists have now won 103 straight matches. The last time they lost was Aug. 19, 2007. The Americans eased past Cuba's Dalixia Fernandez and Tamara Larrea 21-15, 21-16 in just 36 minutes in pool-play action. The Cubans hung with the Americans in the second set, trailing 11-10 at one point before May-Treanor and Walsh pulled away.
August 9: Playing with heavy hearts in a difficult situation, the U.S. Olympic Women’s Indoor Volleyball Team defeated Japan 25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21 in its opening match of the 2008 Olympic Games at Beijing’s Capital Indoor Stadium Saturday night. Danielle Scott-Arruda, playing in her fourth Olympic Games, led Team USA with 22 points. She scored 16 kills on 23 swings to go with a match-high six blocks. Tayyiba Haneef-Park added 14 kills, four blocks and an ace for 19 points. August 11: The U.S. Olympic Women’s Indoor Volleyball Team lost to Cuba 25-15, 26-24, 25-17 on the second day of pool-play matches of the 2008 Olympic Games at Beijing’s Capital Indoor Stadium Saturday night in Beijing. Tayyiba Haneef-Park (Laguna Hills, Calif.) tallied a team-high 13 points with 12 kills on 24 swings, while Logan Tom (Salt Lake City, Utah) added eight points. Heather Bown (Yorba Linda, Calif.) chipped in six points and Danielle Scott-Arruda (Baton Rouge, La.) charted five points.
August 10: The U.S. Olympic Men’s Indoor Team defeated Venezuela, 25-19, 25-18, 22-25, 21-25, 15-10, Sunday afternoon to open its 2008 Olympic Games campaign at Capital Indoor Stadium, less than 24 hours after learning the father-in-law of its head coach was tragically killed while sightseeing in Beijing. David Lee contributed 14 points via eight kills, match-high five blocks and an ace. Captain Tom Hoff substituted into the match in the second, third and fifth sets, while Scott Touzinsky came off the bench in all but the first set.
August 11: The Women's Water Polo Team were given all they could handle in their opening game against China as they battled back for a 12-11 win in their first game of Group A play at the Ying Tung Natatorium. Natalie Golda (Fullerton, CA) led the team on offense with four goals while Kami Craig (Santa Barbara, CA) tossed in three.
