Cross Country heads to Riverside for Big West Conference Championships

LONG BEACH -
The Long Beach State men's and women's cross country teams travel to the Inland Empire for the Big West Conference Championships this Saturday morning at the UC Riverside Agricultural Operations Course.

The women's 6,000-meter race will begin at 8:45 a.m. and will be followed by the men's 8K run at 9:30 a.m. This is the fifth consecutive year the Highlanders have hosted the event.

Last year, the 49er women finished in second-place with 61 points, edging out UC Santa Barbara by one point. On the men's side, LBSU placed third with 69 points, finishing just one point behind UC Santa Barbara in second.

Alisia Barajas, Jessica Barnard, Madison D'Ornellas, Prism Garcia, Taylor Goto, Catherine Martinez, Nina Moore, Michelle Thompson and Alexis Trujillo will represent the 49er women's team, while Tim Bergstrom, Chris Enriquez, Bret Hasvold, Gabe Hilbert, Jared Long, Chris Low and Arturo Trejo will represent the men's team.


 

 

"Our teams are excited and ready for the conference championship meet," distance coach Patrick Wales-Dinan. "We have been preparing for this all year and are ready to show our fitness against some very high level competition. Both the men's and women's squads are very familiar with the great course at Riverside and will be ready to execute a patient and smart race plan."

All the action can be seen live as the Big West Conference provides free, live streaming video from the Big West Cross Country Championship for the first time. From the beginning of the races through the finish lines and on to the awards platform, the live stream will provide new access to the championships for fans.

The broadcast will be available on the Big West Cross Country Championships page beginning at 8:15 a.m. PT on Championship Saturday and will follow the race leaders through the course. Produced utilizing technology from StreamCell and UStream, the broadcast will also be available on mobile devices and via the UStream iOS or Android apps on the Big West Conference UStream channel.
