49er Cross Country Heads To Sacramento For NCAA Preview Meet

The Long Beach State men's and women's cross country teams returns to action this Friday morning taking part in the NCAA Inter-Regional Jamboree hosted by Sacraemento State.

The men's 8,000-meter race is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start, while the women's 5K meet will begin at 10:30 a.m. Both events will take place at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, where the NCAA West Regional will take place in November.

This Friday's meet will serve as both a west regional preview and inter-regional points accumulator featuring a competitive inter-regional field of teams looking to earn their way to the national meet in November.

"The team is primed and ready to compete in this high level competition," distance coach Patrick Wales-Dinan said. "We are sending two full squads and are eagerly awaiting the debuts of upperclassmen Chris Enriquez, Heath Reedy & Tim Bergstrom. This will be a great opportunity for our group to compete against top-level competition. On the women's side we have a young and talented group that will get their first experience against top-level competition. We are very excited to see them compete."

On the men's side, the 49ers will be represented by Sam Bautista, Tim Bergstrom, Jake Dawson, Chris Enriquez, Andrew Garcia, Jose Herrera, Emilio Nunez, Cameron Pantoja, Kevin Ramirez and Heath Reedy.

For the 49er women, team will be comprised of Lali Avila, Ashley Carrera, Kathleen Dunne, Andrea Gayton-Jacob, Alexis, Trujillo, Caitlin Turner and Hillary Zator.

Enriquez was the fastest 5K runner in the Big West Conference last year running 14:12.89, while Zator was third in the conference in the 10K.

LBSU is coming off from a three-week break where the 49ers last competed at the Pepperdine Invitational in Malibu. Pantoja was the top runner for the men's team, finishing in 12th place (25:27.34) in the men's 8K, while Carrera led the way for the women's squad, placing 20th (22:30.28) in the 6K.
