FIRST RUN
The Long Beach State men's and women's cross county teams heads out to the Inland Empire to take part in the 37th Annual UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 16). The women's 6,000-meter race is scheduled to take place at 7:30 a.m. (PT), while the men's 8K will start at 8:05 a.m. (PT). Both races will take place at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course.

LAST YEAR IN RIVERSIDE
The Long Beach State men's team finished in 12th place among 29 teams, scoring 352 points.  Emilio Nunez placed 10th among 392 runners, recording an 8K time of 24:42.24.  On the women's side, LBSU placed 20th among 20 teams, tallying 605 points as Alexandra Lathos led the way for the Beach, crossing the line in 126th among 158 participants, posting a 6K time of 23:25.57.

LAST TIME OUT

The Long Beach State women's cross country team are coming off from a successful opening weekend two weeks ago at the Pepperdine Invitational as LBSU swept five dual meet wins against USC, Pepperdine, UC Irvine, CSUN and CSU Bakersfield. Junior Mikayla Florez led the way for the Beach, crossing the finish line in first-place among 44 runners, posting a 4K time of 14:41.96. Senior George Martinez was the top runner for the men's team, placing sixth among 35 runners posting a 5K time of 16:01.83. In its three duel meets in Malibu, LBSU fell to CSUN, Pepperdine and UC Irvine.

FLOREZ NAMED BIG WEST ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Junior Mikayla Florez was named Big West Conference Athlete of the Week (Aug. 28-Sept. 3), taking home the first weekly honors for cross country. Florez captured first-place at the season-opening Pepperdine Invitational with a 4K time of 14:41.96, helping LBSU to five dual meet wins against USC, Pepperdine, UC Irvine, CSUN and CSU Bakersfield. The Riverbank, Calif. native became the first women's runner from the Beach to win a meet since Rose Del Toro claimed the Aztec Invitational back in 2010.

BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURN TO THE INLAND EMPIRE
After a one-year absence, the Big West Conference Championships return to Riverside, Calif. on Saturday, Oct. 28. UC Riverside will serve as hosts for the first conference championship of the year at UCR's Agricultural Operations Course.

COMING ATTRACTIONS
The 49ers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 23, traveling to Las Vegas for the UNLV Invitational at Craig Ranch Regional Park.
