The Long Beach State men's and women's cross country teams makes the short drive up the coast to Malibu to take part in the Pepperdine Invitational this Saturday.

The women's 6,000-meter race is slated to begin first at 9 a.m., followed by the men's 8K meet at 10 a.m. Both races will take place at Alumni Park on the campus of Pepperdine University.

LBSU is coming off from a two-week break after starting the 2013 season at the Mark Covert Classic in Brea. Seniors Hillary Zator and Jake Dawson were the top runners for the 49ers as Zator finished in fourth-place (18:10.8) in the women's 5K, while Dawson placing sixth (25:51.0) in the men's 8K.

The women's team finished in sixth out of eight teams, recording a total of 144 points, while the men's squad placed third out of five teams with 82 points.

"The race will serve as great preparation for the remainder of the season," said cross country head coach Patrick Wales-Dinan. "I am excited to see Cameron Pantoja, Jose Herrera and Caitlin Turner debut in their first competitions of the season. We have some important races coming up and this will be our last chance to work out the kinks before things get a little more serious!"
