June 26, 2012
LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State cross country team has announced its 2012 schedule which features six regular-season meets.
The 49ers kick off the 2012 campaign with the Fullerton Opener in Brea on Sept. 1, and return to the Orange County area the following weekend for the Irvine Invitational (Sept. 8).
LBSU then heads south to San Diego for the Aztec Invitational on Sept. 15. Long Beach State will continue its travels on Sept. 29 when it heads to either the Stanford Invitational or the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
The 49ers are also slated to compete in the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara (Oct. 13) and the Fullerton Titan Invite (Oct. 19) before the Big West Championships in Riverside on Oct. 27.
Long Beach State then has two weeks to prepare for the NCAA West Regional, which will be held in Seattle, Wash., on Nov. 9. The NCAA Championships are also set for Nov. 17 in Louisville, Ky.
LBSU is looking to build off a very successful 2011 campaign. Last year, Rosa Del Toro won the Big West individual title and Michelle Thompson came in fifth to lead the 49er women to a second-place finish at the conference championships. The men added a third-place showing at the Big West meet with Heath Reedy breaking the school record in the 8K with a time of 23:47.2. The 49er men also took ninth at the NCAA West Regional, while the women were 11th.
