49er cross country teams finish in fifth place at Big West Conference Championships

Big West Cross Country Championship Central

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Senior Alisia Barajas and sophomore Chris Enriquez were the top runners for the Long Beach State cross country teams leading both squads to fifth place finishes at the Big West Conference Championships on Saturday morning at UC Riverside's Agricultural Operations Course.

The women's team collected 107 points in the 10-team field as Cal Poly captured the team title with 43 points. On the men's side, the 49ers nabbed 147 points in the eight-team field as the Mustangs won their second consecutive team title with 25 points.

Barajas crossed the finish line in 10th place in the women's 6,000-meter race in a personal-best of 20:39.8.  With her top-10 finish, Barajas placed in the Big West All-Conference Team.

Senior Michelle Thompson was the next 49er to cross the line in 12th with a mark of 20:46.5, followed by fellow classmates Nina Moore in 18th (21:10.8) and Jessica Barnard in 24th, recording a personal-best of 21:21.3.

Senior Prism Garcia placed 47th (22:07.6), followed by sophomore Catherine Martinez (48th - 22:10.3), freshman Alexis Trujillo (49th - 22:11.6), sophomore Madison D'Ornellas (54th - 22:31.8) and Taylor Goto (59th - 22:40.5).

Laura Hollander of Cal Poly led the field of 81 runners in a time of 19:12.6 to finish in first by 32 seconds.


 

 

In the men's 8K run, Enriquez crossed the finish line in 18th, recording a personal-best of 25:05.7.

Senior Jared Long was the next runner to cross the line for LBSU, placing 20th in a time of 25:16.0, followed by seniors Brett Hasvold in 34th (25:52.6) and Gabe Hilbert in 38th (26:05.3). Sophomore Arturo Trejo finished in 50th (27:13.5).

Chris Frias of Cal Poly led the field of 62 runners in a time of 24:10.0 to cross the line in first by three seconds.

LBSU returns to action on Nov. 9, traveling to Seattle, Wash. for the NCAA West Regional at Jefferson Park Golf Course hosted by the University of Washington.
