FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Long Beach State senior Matt Maldonado finished in 11th place at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday morning at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn.

The men's team finished ahead of Washington (14th) and Arizona (19th) as the Huskies and Wildcats are ranked ahead of the 49ers in the latest USTFCCCA Men's West Region poll.

Maldonado crossed the finish line in the men's 8,000-meter race with a time of 24:28.5, leading the 49ers to place 13th out of 24 teams. Sophomore Heath Reedy came in 12 seconds behind, finishing in 23rd with a time of 24:40.3. Fellow classmate Andrew Garcia finished in 78th (25:25.9), followed by juniors Jake Dawson (25:32.1) in 90th.

Senior Rosa Del Toro was the top runner for the women's team, finishing in 30th with a time of 21:22.4. Junior Michelle Thompson finished second for the 49ers as she crossed the line in 107th (22:18.7), followed by classmate Nina Moore (109th) with a mark of 22:21.3.

"I'm happy with today's results," 49er Head Coach Patrick Cunniff said. "It was a challenging field as our student-athletes ran well with some of the top programs from around the country. Today's event was similar to running a regional or even a national event. This was a great test for both our teams as we strive to get better with every event."

The 49ers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15, traveling to Northern California for the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara.
