SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Senior Alisia Barajas was the top runner for the Long Beach State women's cross country team, finishing in sixth place at the Pac-12 Preview at the Robinson Ranch Golf Course on Friday evening in Santa Clarita.

Barajas crossed the finish line in a time of 17:45 in the women's 5,000-meter race that featured a total of 63 runners. The San Diego native just missed her personal best by 13 seconds.

Senior Michelle Thompson finished in the top-20, crossing the line in 16th with a mark of 18:12. Fellow classmate Jessica Barnard placed 31st with a time of 18:53.

Senior Prism Garcia finished in 49th (19:32), followed by freshman Alexis Trujillo in 52nd (19:37), juniors Annie Randall in 56th (19:49) and Taylor Goto in 57th (19:52). Senior Nina Moore placed 59th (20:04) and sophomore Madison D'Ornellas finished in 62nd (20:31).

The women's team finished in seventh, recording 144 points. No. 27 Texas captured the team championship, leading the field of seven teams with 56 points. UC Davis finished in second with 73 points and Northern Arizona in third with 73 points.


 

 

Laura Hollander of Cal Poly won the women's competition with a time of 17:02, edging Sarah Sumpter of UC Davis by five seconds.

On the men's side, sophomore Arturo Trejo was the top runner for the 49ers, crossing the finish line in 44th with a time of 26:27 in the men's 8K meet.

Senior Bret Hasvold finished just seven seconds behind, placing 45th with a time of 26:34, while fellow classmate Jared Long finished in 50th (26:51).

Freshman Tim Bergstrom placed 60th (28:27), followed by sophomore Chris Enriquez in 61st (28:27) and junior Chris Low in 62nd (29:26).

LBSU finished in seventh, collecting 210 points. No. 18 Northern Arizona won the team title with 23 points, followed by No. 27 UCLA in second with 58 points and Arizona State in third with 66 points.

Brian Shrader of Northern Arizona placed first and teammate Futsum Zienasellassie placed second as both runners recorded a time of 24:30.

The 49ers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 13, traveling to Northern California for the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara.
