Sheffield led the United States women's sprinters and hurdlers at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, and continues her rise in prominence for coaching at the International Level with this appointment, her first head coaching assignment with the USA National Team. She also has coached with the USA at the 2013 World Outdoor Championship, the Pan American Games and the World Indoor Championships.

The Los Angeles native got her start in coaching following a tremendous career on the track. A 1988 Olympic Finalist in the 400m Hurdles, Sheffield won a national championship in 1985 at San Diego State, and went on to compete on the world stage, winning Bronze at the 1987 Pan American Games and a pair of Olympic Sports Festival Gold Medals.
