June 20, 2013
DES MOINES, Iowa - Long Beach State had two athletes competing in the 2013 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium on Thursday.
Devin Hickey ran a solid 14.34 in the 110-meter hurdle prelims, but he finished just three spots out of qualifying for the finals. Hickey had a stellar freshman campaign as he was an All-Big West performer and NCAA West Preliminary qualifier. He placed 27th overall at the regional meet and was the runner-up at the Big West Championships, where he established a lifetime-best 14.20. That mark is also tied for 10th in school history.
Conner Rouse competed in the men's pole vault, but was unable to clear the first bar which was set at 15-11. Rouse also wrapped up an outstanding freshman season that saw him register a personal-record 16-08.75 to win the pole vault at the Beach Classic. He added three more top-five finishes on the year and concluded the campaign with a 10th-place performance at the Big West Championships.
Michael Perez-Rogers is set to run in the first round of the 400m tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. (PT).
Former 49er and All-American Colin Dunbar will also compete in the hammer throw at the U.S. Open National Championships on Friday.
