Twenty-eight track & field student-athletes set to graduate this week
May 21, 2012 LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State track & field team will see 28 of its current and former student-athletes receive their degrees this spring. Graduation ceremonies are held on campus from Wednesday, May 23, through Friday, May 25. During the 2012 indoor season, eight 49ers were named to the MPSF All-Academic team, including seniors Katrina Graves-Johnson and Shari Harris, who will be graduating this week. Strong academic performance has been a common theme in Andy Sythe's 23 years at the helm of the 49er track & field/cross country program. The women's squad has consistently earned all-academic recognition from the USTFCCCA as a result of a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.00 or better. Over 300 student-athletes have also earned academic all-conference honors under Sythe's guidance.
