Long Beach State sends small group to Stanford Invitational this weekend

Complete Release in PDF Format LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State track & field team heads to Northern California this weekend for the 2012 Stanford Invitational, April 6-7. STANFORD INVITATIONAL INFO Gabriel Hilbert (1500m), Steven DeCastro (3000m Steeplechase), Jessica Barnard (1500m), Alisia Barajas (5000m) and Rosa Del Toro (5000m) are set to compete on Friday, while Hilbert and Barnard return to the track on Saturday for the 800m. 49ERS RACK UP BIG WEST WEEKLY AWARDS Jacob Weintraub also collected Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors on March 27. Weintraub won the discus and finished third in the shot put at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational. He is currently tops in the conference in the discus (170-00) and second in the shot put (58-07.25). Rosa Del Toro was tabbed the Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Week on March 20. Del Toro finished third overall in the 1500m at the rain-shortened Aztec Invitational. Despite running in inclement weather, she clocked in at 4:29.36, just .32 seconds off her previous lifetime best. The Van Nuys native currently ranks fifth in program history as she recently notched a personal-record 4:28.44 at the Cal-Nevada Championships. LAST TIME OUT On Sunday, Kayla Goosby, Saedra Wright, Dee Lars and Emily Cooper started off the day with a victory in the 4x100 relay (46.99), while Rosa Del Toro finished ahead of the pack in the 1500m as she clocked in with a personal-record 4:28.44, which ranks her fifth in school history. Also winning their respective events were Katrina Graves-Johnson (high jump), Koree Hines (110H), Christopher Lawson (400H), Jacob Weintraub (discus) and Brandon Hierholzer (pole vault).
