LONG BEACH - A majority of the Long Beach State track & field team will head south to La Jolla for the Cal-Nevada Championships, while four 49er distance runners are set to travel to the Stanford Invitational, March 29-30.

CAL-NEVADA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Cal-Nevada Championships will be held at UC San Diego's Triton Track & Field Stadium, March 29-30. The field events get underway on Friday with the men's hammer throw at noon and the track events will start with the women's 100m hurdle prelims at 1:15 p.m. Saturday's action is set to open with the women's hammer at 11 a.m. and the 4x100 at 2 p.m. LBSU has 71 athletes (36 men, 35 women) entered in the Cal-Nevada Championships.

STANFORD INVITATIONAL
The Stanford Invitational is set for Friday and Saturday at Cobb Track & Angell Field. Gabe Hilbert (800m), Jake Dawson (10000m), Meghan Foley (1500m) and Michelle Thompson (10000m) will represent the 49ers in a handful of distance events.

LAST TIME OUT
Michael Vaughan and Adam Bianchessi both picked up their second individual victories of the season at the UCI Spring Break Invitational last weekend. Vaughan claimed the triple jump title with a leap of 49-03.5, while Bianchessi took top honors in the javelin (208-08). Jason Harrell was also the runner-up in the discus with a lifetime-best 180-05. Joel Baez added a second-place performance in the hammer (193-01).

On the women's side, Goziam Okolie took second in the triple jump (37-07.25). Alexandra Cervantes also finished sixth in the hammer throw with a lifetime-best 165-08. Her mark ranks 10th in school history.

AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
Two 49ers rank among the top-15 in the nation in their respective events. Senior Michael Vaughan leads the way as he is No. 3 in the triple jump after establishing a lifetime-best 51-07.25 at the Beach Classic. Junior Adam Bianchessi also owns the 12th-best javelin mark among all NCAA Division I athletes (223-07).

49ERS CLAIM BIG WEST MEN'S WEEKLY HONORS
Long Beach State has claimed three Big West track & field athlete of the week awards. Senior Chris Yates was named the Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week on March 12. He earned the honor after establishing then lifetime bests in the shot put (55-00) and hammer throw (191-06) at the Ben Brown Invitational.

Junior Koree Hines was tabbed the Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week following a runner-up finish in the 110m hurdles at the Beach Classic (March 2) where he notched a personal-record 14.21 seconds. He also helped the 49ers to a pair of second-place performances in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Senior Michael Vaughan was also selected as the Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week as he won the triple jump at the Beach Classic with a lifetime-best 51-07.25. The mark is third in the nation and ties him for eighth all-time at LBSU.

UP NEXT
Long Beach State's multi-eventers will be in action next weekend when they travel to Santa Barbara for the Sam Adams Multis, April 5-6.
