LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State track & field team has consistently produced strong performances every week and it looks to do the same when it makes the short trip to Irvine for the UCI Spring Break Invitational, March 22-23.

AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
Three 49ers rank among the top-10 in the nation in their respective events. Senior Michael Vaughan leads the way as he is No. 3 in the triple jump after establishing a lifetime-best 51-07.25 at the Beach Classic. Junior Adam Bianchessi also owns the eighth-best javelin mark among all NCAA Division I athletes (223-07), while Chris Yates is 10th in the shot put (57-00.25).

UC IRVINE SPRING BREAK INVITATIONAL
LBSU has 76 athletes (38 men, 38 women) entered in the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational, which will be held at Anteater Stadium, on Friday and Saturday. The women's and men's hammer throw are the only field events scheduled for Friday and start at 3 p.m., while the 5000m and 3000m Steeplechase will take place in the evening, beginning at 6 p.m.

The rest of the meet is slated for Saturday with the field events kicking off at 10 a.m. and the track events set to get underway at noon.

LAST TIME OUT
Six 49ers established personal records at the Aztec Invitational last Saturday (March 16). Adam Bianchessi led the way as he won the javelin with a distance of 223-07. He is now No. 4 among LBSU's all-time top-10. Chris Yates also took third in the shot put at 57-00.25, marking the second weekend in a row that he has notched a personal best and tying him for ninth in school history. In addition, Jason Harrell (discus, 177-09), Amanda Klinchuch (pole vault, 12-00), Taylor Jackson (long jump, 17-08.25) and Alexandra Cervantes (shot put, 44-01.50) registered personal bests. Klinchuch's height in the pole vault is tied for seventh in program history.

49ERS DOMINATE BIG WEST MEN'S WEEKLY HONORS
Long Beach State has claimed three Big West men's track & field athlete of the week awards in the first three weeks of the season. Junior Koree Hines (track) and senior Michael Vaughan (field) were recognized by the conference for their performances at the Beach Classic on March 2, while senior Chris Yates was named the Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week on March 12. Yates earned the honor after establishing then lifetime bests in the shot put (55-00) and hammer throw (191-06) at the Ben Brown Invitational.

Hines was tabbed the Big West Track Athlete of the Week following a runner-up finish in the 110m hurdles at the Beach Classic where he notched a personal-record 14.21 seconds. He also helped the 49ers to a pair of second-place performances in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Vaughan was selected as the Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week as he won the triple jump with a lifetime-best 51-07.25. The mark is third in the nation and ties him for eighth all-time at LBSU.
