LONG BEACH - Two 49ers will head to Nampa, Idaho, to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships, March 9-10, while the rest of the Long Beach State track and field team is set to continue the outdoor season at the Ben Brown Invitational.

NCAA INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP INFO
The NCAA Indoor Championships will be hosted by Boise State at Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho, March 9-10. Junior Matt Maldonado and senior Katrina Graves-Johnson qualified for the national meet and both will compete on Friday. Maldonado is in heat 1 of the men's mile preliminaries which begins at 5 p.m., while Graves-Johnson will participate in the women's high jump at 8 p.m. If Maldonado advances to the finals, he will also run at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday.

BEN BROWN INVITATIONAL INFO
The Ben Brown Invitational, which is hosted by Cal State Fullerton, will be held at the Titan Track Complex, March 9-10. The meet gets underway on Friday with the women's and men's hammer throw at 10 a.m. The rest of the events are set for Saturday with the field events starting at 8:30 a.m. and the track events beginning at 10 a.m.

WOODRUFF NAMED BIG WEST FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ben Woodruff was named the Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week after a stellar performance in the 49ers' outdoor season opener. Woodruff won the javelin at the Beach Classic with a personal-record 235-04. He topped his previous lifetime best by 14 feet and was just two feet shy of the school and conference record. The reigning Big West champion threw an Olympic Trials "B" standard and enters the weekend ranked second in the nation.

BEACH CLASSIC WRAP-UP
Long Beach State posted six individual victories at the Beach Classic last weekend. Shakina Phillips led the way as she was a double-winner in the 100 and 400 hurdles. Ben Woodruff (javelin), Jacob Weintraub (discus), Koree Hines (110 hurdles) and Kylee Martin (5000m) also finished ahead of the pack in their respective events. The Beach Classic was the 49ers' first of two home meets held at Cerritos College this season. LBSU will also host the Beach Invitational, April 20-21.

MALDONADO SETS NEW STANDARD
Matt Maldonado set a new standard at Long Beach State as he became the first 49er in program history to run a sub-four mile at the MPSF Indoor Championships on Feb. 25. The Modesto, Calif., native claimed the conference title with a lifetime-best 3:59.08. Maldonado broke his own school record for the third time in 2012. He previously notched the top mark at the Husky Classic (4:00.70) and the UW Invitational (4:03.39).

KATRINA RISES UP
Katrina Graves-Johnson notched her NCAA Indoor qualifying mark in the high jump at the Husky Classic on Feb. 11. Graves-Johnson tied a 12-year old school record when she cleared a lifetime-best 5-11.50. The Monrovia, Calif., native claimed the individual high jump title at the Run for the Dream Meet and Air Force Team Challenge, while finishing second at the Husky Classic and MPSF Indoor Championships.

UP NEXT
Long Beach State is back in action next weekend at the Northridge Multi-Events (March 15-16) and the Aztec Invitational (March 17). The 49ers will also send a group of hammer throwers to the USC Trojan Invitational on March 17.
