Maldonado holds the school record in the indoor mile
Jan. 10, 2013
LONG BEACH - Long Beach State senior distance runner Matt Maldonado was recently featured in an interview on Flotrack.org.
Maldonado had a standout indoor campaign last year as he broke his own school record in the mile three times. The Modesto, Calif., native had his best performance at the 2012 MPSF Indoor Championships where he claimed the title with a time of 3:59.08. Maldonado was the first 49er in program history to run a sub-four mile. He went on to garner second-team All-America honors with a 12th-place showing at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Maldonado also ranks among Long Beach State's all-time top-10 in the indoor 800m (8th, 1:54.13) and the outdoor 1500m (2nd, 3:44.28). He was an All-Big West performer in the 1500 in 2010 and is a two-time NCAA West Regional qualifier.
Maldonado and the rest of the 49ers begin the 2013 indoor campaign in two weeks at the UW Invitational (Jan. 25-26) and the Air Force Team Challenge (Jan. 26).
