Gold tops Black, 308-282, in 22nd annual intersquad meet

LONG BEACH - The Gold team pulled out a 308-282 win over the Black squad in Long Beach State track & field's 22nd annual intersquad meet Saturday, Dec. 8, at Jack Rose Track.
It was the third-straight victory for the Gold team, which claimed top honors in 17 events. They were led by junior Taylor Jackson, who won the women's long jump (17-02), triple jump (36-05.25) and javelin (109-10). Her mark in the long jump tied for ninth in meet history.
Also finishing ahead of the pack and ranking among the Black & Gold all-time top-10 in their respective events were Kayla Goosby (women's 60m), Chelsea Hairanian (women's 500m), Taylor Lorack (women's 300m hurdles), Cody Smith (men's 300m hurdles) and Chris Yates (men's shot put).
On the black squad, sophomore Emily Cooper was the first to cross the finish line in both the 150m (18.3s) and 300m (39.6s), while she took second in the 60m (7.7s). All three of her times ranked among the meet's all-time top-10.
Freshman Willie Alexander was also a multiple winner, claiming top honors in the long jump (23-03) and the triple jump (49-02.25). He is now third on the Black & Gold all-time charts in both events.
Junior Meghan Foley took first in the 800m with the second-best time in meet history at 2:15.7, while senior Nina Moore won the 1600m (5:09.2, 3rd all-time). Senior Matt Maldonado added a first-place finish in the men's 3200m with a time of 9:01.1, which ranks third among the all-time top-10.
Overall, 24 marks from Saturday's event were among the Black & Gold meet's all-time top-10.
Long Beach State officially kicks off the indoor season with the UW Invitational (Jan. 25-26) and the Air Force Team Challenge (Jan. 26).
