49ers wrap up action at NCAA West Preliminary Rounds
May 26, 2012 AUSTIN, Texas - The Long Beach State track & field team wrapped up action at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Senior Shakina Phillips ran a lifetime-best 13.51 in the 100-meter hurdles, but finished outside the top 12 as she was sixth in her heat and 18th overall. Senior Tyler Wallace tied for 29th in the pole vault, clearing 16-08.75. Freshman Jacob Fraser was also 30th in the discus with a toss of 169-04. He finished 13 spots ahead of his ranking entering the meet. Long Beach State had two athletes advance this weekend as Ben Woodruff (men's javelin) and Katrina Graves-Johnson (women's high jump) will be competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, June 6-9.
