49ers have solid showing at Steve Scott Invite, wrap up action at Triton Invite

IRVINE, Calif. - The Long Beach State track & field team kicked off the annual Steve Scott Invitational with 28 athletes competing in 11 events Saturday at Anteater Stadium.

Alisia Barajas led the way with a third-place showing in the 5000-meter run as she crossed the finish line in 17:35.41. Annie Randall (17:44.41) and Nina Moore (17:54.33) both registered season bests and Big West qualifying marks to place fifth and seventh, respectively.

Kayla Kamaka and Amanda Klinchuch continued their strong performances in the pole vault after competing at the UCSD Triton Invitational on Friday. Kamaka cleared 12-01.50 to finish fourth overall, while Klinchuch matched her lifetime best at 11-07.75 (5th). Amber Britt added a top-10 performance with a Big West qualifying mark of 11-01.75.

Alexandra Cervantes posted a season-best 162-10 to take 10th in the hammer throw and Rebecca Hamilton also notched a season-long 118-04 in the javelin (11th).

On the men's side, Andrew Garcia had a fifth-place showing in the 3000m steeplechase as he clocked in with a season-best 9:15.30. Arturo Trejo also notched a season-best 10:01.03.



Jake Dawson was the 49ers' top finisher in the 5000m, coming in sixth overall (14:42.80). Steven DeCastro added a 10th-place performance with a season-best 15:07.10.

Mark Horist was third in the javelin (175-10) and Josh Villalobos took seventh in the hammer with a season-best 182-11.

At the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Ben Woodruff was the runner-up in the javelin (228-03) and Jacob Fraser posted a season-best 172-06 in the discus.

Long Beach State closes out the Steve Scott Invitational on Sunday, April 29, at Anteater Stadium. The meet gets underway at noon.
