NORWALK, Calif. - Senior Kenneth Medwood highlighted Saturday's action at the Beach Invitational, which was held at Cerritos College, as he established a school and meet record in the 400-meter hurdles.

Medwood came in ahead of the pack, crossing the finish line in a blistering 50.37 seconds. Sam Jeter made it a one-two finish for The Beach as he ran a lifetime-best 51.26, which ranks him sixth in school history.

Medwood added a third-place showing in the long jump (23-10.25) and a sixth-place performance in the 200-meter dash (21.49). Both of those marks are season bests.

Jeter also registered a Big West qualifying time in his 200m season debut as he won his heat in 21.92 seconds.

Nimrod Piggee tied for eighth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.65), while Spencer Phillips established a season-low 15.34 seconds. Phillips also ran his fastest time of the year in the 100m dash (11.67).

Mario Granville netted a personal record in the 800-meter run as he clocked in at 1 minute, 53.66 seconds to finish 12th overall.

Chris Sweeney led the 49ers in the 400m with a season-best 49.22, which put him in the top 20.

In the field events, Alex Black tied for third in the high jump with a height of 6-07.50.

Rajan Bains, the reigning Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week, took third in the hammer toss with a distance of 176-01. Peter Fourtounis wasn't far behind in fourth place as he notched a personal-record 175-01.

 

 

Cesar Puga was LBSU's top finisher in the discus (167-00) and shot put (52-07.25), finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.

Brandon Dawes and James Bush tied for 15th in the pole vault, clearing 14-02.50. That mark was a personal record for Bush.

On the women's side, Tayler O'Connor matched her lifetime best in the high jump, clearing 5-08.75 to earn runner-up honors.

Rachel Hammar had a top 10 finish in the discus as she posted a lifetime-best 153-04, while Alexandra Cervantes was the 49ers' top finisher in the hammer throw with a personal-record 140-01.

Over on the track, Anastasiya Kholev placed 16th in the 400m dash with a lifetime-best 58.64, while Kristen Kiefer added a 14th-place finish in the 400 hurdles, registering a season-low 64.12.

Long Beach State returns to action next weekend when it sends a split squad to the Drake Relays (April 22-24) and the UCSD Triton Invitational (April 23-24).
