Long Beach State Wraps up Day One at Mt. SAC Relays/Cal Invitational Multi-Events

AZUSA, Calif. - Four Long Beach State multi-event athletes competed on the first day of the Mt. SAC Relays/California Invitational Decathlon/Heptathlon Wednesday at Azusa Pacific's Cougar Stadium.
Junior Garrett Demirjian sits in third place with 3,678 points after five events in the California Invitational "A" Decathlon. He won the 400m with a time of 50.96 and tied for first in the shot put at 43-11.5. Demirjian also tied for fifth in the high jump (6-02.5), was sixth in the long jump (21-10.5) and eighth in the 100m (11.40).
In the women's California Invitational Heptathlon, junior Taylor Jackson (2,950) is 17th, senior Wendy Izquierdo (2,648) is 26th and junior Erica Williams (2,548) is 29th after four events. Jackson finished fourth in her flight of the shot put (36-09.25), while Izquierdo added a lifetime-best 33-05.5.
The quartet will close out the decathlon and heptathlon tomorrow, while a handful of 49ers will also begin competition in the Mt. SAC Relays. In addition, LBSU is set to host the Beach Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
