LBSU distance runners off to strong start at Stanford Invitational
Two 49ers register lifetime bests on first day of two-day meet

STANFORD, Calif. - The Long Beach State distance runners had a strong showing on the opening day of the Stanford Invitational Friday afternoon at Cobb Track & Angell Field.
Rosa Del Toro finished sixth in Section 4 of the 5000-meter run with a personal-record 16:45.72. Her mark ranks third in school history.
Alisia Barajas also competed in the 5000m, clocking in with a season-best 17:21.80 to place 17th in Section 5.
Jessica Barnard won her section of the 1500m in a season-best 4:32.46.
On the men's side, Steven DeCastro took fourth in Section 3 of the 3000m steeplechase. DeCastro crossed the finish line in 9:02.22, which is a lifetime best and ranks fourth on the 49er all-time charts.
Gabriel Hilbert chipped in a season-best 3:54.07 to place 11th in Section 7 of the 1500m.
Hilbert and Barnard will compete in the men's and women's 800-meter run at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday. The women's races are slated to start at 1:34 p.m., while the men's races will begin at 1:54 p.m.
