49ers Finish Competition at UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational

Senior Michael Vaughan picked up his second individual victory of the season, winning the triple jump at the UCI Spring Break Invite.

IRVINE, Calif. - The Long Beach State track & field team had a pair of individual victories and a handful of personal records Saturday at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational at Anteater Stadium.

Adam Bianchessi won the javelin with a toss of 208-08, while Michael Vaughan took top honors in the triple jump at 49-03.5. Spencer Gray was also fourth in the TJ with a season-best 45-09.75.

Joel Baez was the runner-up in the hammer throw (193-01), which was held on Friday. Kody Robison added a personal-best 180-05 to finish fifth, and Chris Yates placed sixth (178-11).

Jacob Fraser had a fourth-place showing in both the shot put (53-08.5) and the discus, where he notched a personal-record 178-01. Harrell was also second in the discus (180-05), while Baez took seventh (165-03). Both marks were lifetime bests. In addition, Yates was third in the shot put (56-02.5)

Conner Rouse was LBSU's top performer in the pole vault, clearing 15-07 to place fifth.

Willie Alexander and Camren Woods tied for ninth in the long jump (22-10.5).

On the track, Dylan McCloskey registered a season-best 10.93 to finish sixth in the 100m. Michael Perez-Rogers and Elijah Landry-Zapien also tied for eighth at 10.94 seconds. Perez-Rogers added a sixth-place performance in the 200m (21.90).

Gabe Hilbert paced Long Beach State in the mid-distances as he came in ninth in the 800m (1:55.37) and the 1500m (3:55.29). Both of his marks were season bests. Jared Long also took 14th in the 3000m at 8:42.12.

Devin Hickey was the third-place finisher in the 110m hurdles (14.50), while Koree Hines came in sixth (14.80). Davon Wilson-Angel (14.85, 7th) and Garrett Demirjian (14.89, 9th) were also among the top-10. Demirjian's mark was a lifetime best.

Hickey, Hines, McCloskey and Perez-Rogers ran a combined 4x100 time of 41.72 to finish third overall, while Jahmani Lockett, McCloskey, Perez-Rogers and Hilbert came in fifth in the 4x400 (3:15.84).

Coming off a lifetime-best 12-00 clearance in the pole vault last week, Amanda Klinchuch had another strong finish as she placed fourth at 11-07.75. Jodi Lambert also tied for seventh (11-01.75).

Janelle Coulter tied for seventh in the high jump (5-03).

Goziam Okolie was the runner-up in the triple jump with a season-best 37-07.25. Taylor Jackson was also third (37-01.75) and Chaylene Bruggeman finished fourth (36-09.25).

In the long jump, Jackson tied for 13th with a season-best 17-11.75. Iesha Iwobi was 15th (17-05.25), while Koquise Richards (17-04) and Bruggeman (17-01.25) also registered season bests.

Marina Shelton was LBSU's top performer in the discus as she tallied a personal-record 144-09 to come in seventh. Jerrilynn Stanwood added an eighth-place showing with a season-best 142-03.

Emily Cooper led the way in the 200-meter dash as she was seventh overall with a time of 24.65 seconds. Saedra Wright also had a 13th-place showing.

In addition, Wright was the 49ers' top 400m runner with a season-best 57.06 seconds (6th). Jasmine Askew also notched a season-best 57.16 to come in seventh, while Nicole Poindexter crossed the finish line in a lifetime-best 57.77 seconds to take 11th.

Kayla Goosby was 10th in the 100-meter dash (12.48), while her twin sister, Kristina, was right behind her in 11th place with a season-best 12.50.

Alexis Trujillo had a strong day with a pair of top-20 finishes as she clocked in with season bests in both the 400m (4:41.94) and the 800m (2:17.36).

In the 3000-meter run, Meghan Foley led five 49ers with a ninth-place performance (10:10.41). Nina Moore was also 16th (10:29.32).

Taylor Lorack posted a season-best 64.12 to come in 11th in the 400-meter hurdles, while Erica Williams was 13th in the 100m hurdles with a season-best 15.23 seconds.

The quartet of Cooper, Kayla Goosby, Kristina Goosby and Wright combined to finish third in the 4x100 relay (46.84). Askew, Cooper, Wright and Lorack added a fifth-place performance in the 4x400 (3:48.14).

Long Beach State is back in action next weekend when it heads south to La Jolla, Calif., for the Cal-Nevada Championships, March 29-30. The 49ers will also have a handful of athletes travel north for the Stanford Invitational (March 29-30).
