FULLERTON, Calif. - A handful of 49er throwers and distance runners competed at the Ben Brown Invitational this weekend at the Titan Track Complex in Fullerton.

On Friday, Shari Harris placed eighth in the women's hammer with a lifetime-best 173-00. That mark puts her third in school history. Alexandra Cervantes also finished 12th with a toss of 162-08.

In the men's hammer throw, Josh Villalobos took sixth overall (175-01), while Jacob Fraser was 12th (160-05).

The 49er distance runners competed on Saturday evening and Rosa Del Toro led the way with a first-place performance in the A section of the 5000m. She crossed the finish line in 16:53.23 to rank fourth on LBSU's all-time top 10 list.

In the 5000m B section, Jessica Barnard finished ahead of the pack in 17 minutes, 37.18 seconds. Alisia Barajas (17:42.85) and Michelle Thompson (17:45.22) made it a sweep for Long Beach State as they took second and third, respectively.

On the men's side, Jake Dawson won the 5000m "B" in a time of 14:40.48. Andrew Garcia was also among the top 10 at 14:55.93. Cameron Pantoja (15:04.67) was the runner up in section C, while Jared Long took third (15:12.02).

 

 

Shara Longbotham also competed in the high jump, clearing 5-00.25.

Long Beach State returns to action next week with the California Relays Decathlon-Heptathlon, March 14-15. The 49ers will also compete in the Aztec Invitational and the USC Invitational (hammer only) on March 17.
