49er Track & Field Wraps Up Action at Ben Brown Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Long Beach State track & field team wrapped up action at the Ben Brown Invitational, where it registered three individual victories, Saturday at the Titan Track Complex.

Meghan Foley finished ahead of the pack in the 1500-meter run with a personal-record 4:34.90, while Alexandra Cervantes claimed the shot put title (41-11.5).

On the men's side, Jacob Fraser took top honors in the discus at 164-06, and Jason Harrell made it a 1-2 finish for LBSU as he was the runner-up (161-01). Nathan Wright added a 13th-place showing (142-07).

Fraser was also third in the shot put (53-01.75), behind Chris Yates, who came in second overall with a season-best 55-00.

Three 49ers established lifetime bests in the hammer throw. Joel Baez led the way as he finished fourth with a toss of 193-07. Baez now ranks 10th in school history. Yates also placed fifth (191-06), while Josh Villalobos was seventh (186-10).

In the javelin, Adam Bianchessi took third with a distance of 210-00. His mark is No. 7 all-time at Long Beach State. Nathan Wright was also 12th at 169-07.

On the track, Davon Wilson-Angel finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.67, and Ryan Petrella had a top-10 showing in the 400-meter hurdles as he clocked in at 55.41 seconds to come in seventh.



Jahmani Lockett won his section of the 800m in a season-best 2:03.62 (56th overall). Bryce Van Boxtel also registered a season-best 50.26 in the 400m.

In the 5000m, Andrew Garcia was the 49ers' top finisher with a time of 14:56.99.

The women's throwers had strong performances on Saturday. In addition to Cervantes' win in the shot put, Linda Rueff was the runner-up in the discus with a toss of 135-11. Jerrilynn Stanwood (131-04) and Marina Shelton (123-07) also finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while Brianna Viltz (106-11) was 11th.

In the women's hammer throw, Cervantes was LBSU's top performer in ninth place (157-11). Shelton was 13th overall (139-05), and Rueff added a season-best 137-10 to finish 15th. Erica Williams also took fourth in the javelin (119-09).

Goziam Okolie tied for 20th in the long jump with a season-best 16-01.

In the track events, Kristina Goosby was 13th in the 100-meter dash, clocking in with a season-best 12.40 seconds.

Michelle Thompson led a trio of Long Beach State athletes in the 5000m "A" as she established a lifetime-best 17:34.63 to place 17th. Alexis Trujillo was also 20th (17:54.39). Hillary Zator paced the 49ers in the "B" section of the 5000m as she finished 16th (18:02.70).

Long Beach State returns to action on Saturday, March 16, when it heads south to San Diego for the Aztec Invitational.
