Senior Rosa Del Toro Establishes 3000m Indoor School Record at UW Invitational

SEATTLE, Wash. - Eight Long Beach State distance runners kicked off the 2013 indoor track and field season at the UW Invitational, and senior Rosa Del Toro highlighted the group by establishing a school record in the 3000m Saturday at Dempsey Indoor.

Del Toro shattered her own 3000m record by nearly 13 seconds as she clocked in at 9:22.08 to place 11th overall. Del Toro's previous best was 9:34.81. Classmate Michelle Thompson also came in 29th place in her first indoor race (10:10.84).

In the other invitational sections, senior Matt Maldonado finished sixth among collegiate athletes and ninth overall in the mile with a time of 4:07.50. Maldonado currently owns the school record at 3:59.08 as he is the only 49er in program history to run a sub-four mile.

Senior Gabe Hilbert had a ninth-place performance in the men's 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 1:52.94. He was just .82 seconds off his personal record which ranks fourth in Long Beach State history.

Senior Jake Dawson established a lifetime-best 8:30.57 in the 3000m to rank sixth among the 49er all-time top-10.

In the open races, junior Meghan Foley came in 26th in the 800m with the sixth-fastest time in school history (2:15.72), while senior Nina Moore finished the 3000m in 10 minutes, 52.25 seconds.



Long Beach State continues the indoor season in two weekends when it heads back to Seattle for the Husky Classic (Feb. 8-9). The 49ers will also make their way to USAF Academy, Colo., for the Air Force Team Challenge on Feb. 9.
