Carly Harris begins her third year as the 49ers' assistant cross country and distance coach.
Harris has helped mentor numerous student-athletes that have produced 11 combined school records in cross country and indoor/outdoor distance events, including the 2011 Big West Women's Cross Country champion and conference athlete of the year, Rosa Del Toro. Del Toro left Long Beach State as the school-record holder in the 5K and 6K in cross country, and in the 1500m, indoor mile and indoor 3000m on the track.
In addition, Harris helped coach Jessica Barnard, the 2012 Big West champion in the 3000m steeplechase, and Jennifer Rodriguez, who established a 49er record in the 10000m. Overall, Harris' athletes have established 54 marks that rank among LBSU's all-time top-10.
Harris was a standout student-athlete at Long Beach State, competing in both cross country and track & field from 2007-09. She is a former school-record holder for the indoor 3000m (9:37.57) and the 3000m steeplechase (10:28.31). Harris currently ranks second in the indoor 3000m and distance medley relay, and the outdoor 5000m. She is also among the top-10 in the outdoor 1500m and the indoor mile.
Harris was a multiple All-Big West performer and an NCAA Regional qualifier in the steeplechase. She is still racing competitively as a post-collegiate runner and the Chico, Calif., native was the 2010 Nike Women's San Francisco Half Marathon champion.
Harris came to LBSU from Santa Barbara City College where she received MVP and all-conference honors in track in 2007.
Harris graduated from Long Beach State with a bachelor's degree in exercise science in 2009 and is currently working toward her Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
