Long Beach State Sends 19 to Don Kirby Elite in New Mexico

The Long Beach State track and field team is sending 19 student-athletes - 11 women and eight men - to the Don Kirby Elite Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico this weekend. The competition serves as the the 49ers’ last tune up before the MPSF Championships in two weeks.

About The Don Kirby Elite
The Don Kirby Elite Invitational will take place at the University of New Mexico Track and Field Facility and Albuquerque Convention Center in New Mexico. The competeition will feature 40 universities, including fellow MPSF institutions Arizona, Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Oregon, Stanford, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UCLA and Washington State. The 19 LBSU student-athletes that will compete will make up a total of 930 student-athletes competing from all across the country.

Don Kirby Elite Schedule
The Don Kirby Elite Invitational will begin on Friday with the track events starting at 3:30 p.m. and the field events kicking off at 4 p.m. The meet will continue through Saturday with field events beginning at 9:30 a.m. and track events commencing at 10:15 a.m. See below for the complete meet schedule:

Looking Ahead
Following the indoor season, the Long Beach State track and field team will kick off the outdoor season on its home field at the Jack Rose Track on Saturday, March 4, when the Beach host the LBSU-UCLA Dual meet. During the outdoor campaign, the Beach will host four meets including the dual meet. The remaining three home meets will take place in April when LBSU hosts the Big West Challenge (April 7), the Pacific Coast Intercollegitate (April 13) and the Beach Invitational (April 14-15).

Up Next
Long Beach State has two weeks to prepare for its next competition at the MPSF Indoor Championships which will be held in Seattle, Wash. The Beach will go up against the top teams in the conference in the two-day championships which begin on Friday, Feb. 24 and will wrap up on Saturday, Feb. 25.
