Jewels Thanks

To The Editor,

Thank you for your donation of a Grunion Guest Columnist to the Eighth Annual Jewels of the Night auction and dinner May 4 at Long Beach State. Your donation helped us exceed our goal and raise more than $170,000 for the 49er Athletic Association Student-Athlete Scholarship Program.

Jewels of the Night is our biggest fund-raising event of the year. We had more than 1,100 people in attendance, 54 restaurants serving their finest cuisine and more than 800 auction items. We continue to get better each year because of your generosity to our program.

Mark your calendar because we have already booked a band for the Ninth Annual Jewels of the Night for May 17, 2003. Stay tuned to our Web site, jewelsofthenight.com, for the latest information throughout the year.

Again, thank you on behalf of our coaches, staff and especially our student-athletes for your support. We have almost 300 student-athletes who are able to fulfill their dream to compete in their sport and complete an education at this fine university.
