Long Beach, Calif. - In the eighth of an ongoing series honoring the 2011 Long Beach State Hall of Fame nominees, we take a look at a force in working with athletics as a part of the University as a whole, Doug Robinson.
Robinson has served as Vice President for Student Services at Long Beach State since 1991. During this period, Doug has demonstrated on many occasions his support for the university's athletic program. Working closely over the years with athletic directors Corey Johnson, Dave O'Brien, Bill Shumard, and Vic Cegles, as well as Cindy Masner, Doug has worked tirelessly to ensure that student-athlete welfare remained as a high priority for the athletic department and the university.
Doug has served on the athletic department's compliance committee for the past twenty years, and has served as committee chair on two occasions for fifteen years. Doug served as steering committee chair on three occasions, overseeing NCAA Division 1 Certification process for the university. On each occasion, Long Beach State was fully certified, and without conditions.
Robinson was a three-year starter at cornerback at Iowa State, and was drafted by the New Orleans Saints following his career with the Cyclones.
The 2011 Long Beach State Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Long Beach Hotel & Executive Meeting Center. Tickets are available online here.
