Beach Hires Tyler Hendrickson As Associate Media Relations Director
Hendrickson spent the last five years with the Gazettes Newspapers as a staff writer.
Hendrickson has a deep history with the athletics department as well as with the University, spending the last three seasons as the voice of Long Beach State women’s basketball on the radio while also covering all Long Beach State sports as a contributor to both the Grunion Gazette and the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
“I’m thrilled to have Tyler on board,” said Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations Roger Kirk. “His energy, enthusiasm and passion for Long Beach State really made him stand out in the hiring process. Tyler brings a great background in Long Beach sports with him, and has a lot of fresh ideas which will help us to promote Beach Athletics in the best manner possible.”
A graduate of Long Beach State in both for both his undergraduate degree and a Master’s in Sports Management, Hendrickson joined Mike Guardabascio and JJ Fiddler in their move to Gazettes Sports, where he became a valued contributor to both sports sections.
Additionally, Hendrickson served as the sports editor for the weekly print edition of the Grunion Gaette, while cutting video highlights and features as part of the team’s coverage of both are prep sports and Long Beach State.
Beginning in the 2012-13 season, Hendrickson was brought on as women’s basketball’s first traveling play-by-play announcer, increasing the quality and consistency of broadcasts on longbeachstate.com while serving as the voice of the 49ers.
Hendrickson will handle women’s volleyball, women’s tennis and the Dirtbags as his primary sport responsibilities, and will assist with the department’s video and social media efforts.
