LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State is putting "The Beach" into its men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs.
LBSU is putting the finishing touches on a new floor in the Walter Pyramid where all four teams play. The new floor prominently features four California palm trees framing "The Beach" logo at midcourt. The key at both ends of the floor as well as the lettering on the baseline and sidelines match the color of the palm trees and the color scheme is reflective of California beaches and not intended to feature the 49er school colors.
The women's volleyball program will have the honor of playing the first game on the new floor when the 49ers open their home season against James Madison next Thursday, Aug. 30, in the Long Beach State Mizuno Invitational. The 49er women's basketball team will play its first game on the new floor on Friday, Nov. 9, when they host Sacramento State, while the men's basketball team opens its season against North Alabama at homecoming on Saturday, Nov. 10. The men's volleyball team plays its first game on the new floor in January.
