49ers Have 35 Student-Athletes In Nine Sports Honored For Academics

Long Beach, Calif. - The Big West Conference announced the recipients of Academic All-Big West honors for both Winter and Spring sports today, and 35 different Long Beach State athletes from nine Big West sports were recognized.

To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must have completed at least one year at the institution, participated in more than half of the team's games, and maintain a cumulative GPA of over 3.20.

From Long Beach State's winter sports, two players were honored, one each from the men's and women's basketball program. Sophomore Kris Gulley represented the men, while sophomore Sigrid Skorpen represented the women. Gulley was one of just nine men's basketball players recognized throughout the entire conference.

Among the spring sports, men's and women's track and field led the way, with eight honorees each from the men and the women, totaling 16, Tim Bergstrom, Jake Dawson, Gabe Hilbert, Elijah Landry-Zapien, Connor Naasz, Ryan Petrella, Michael Vaughan, and Josh Villalobos were recognized for the men, while the list for the women included Amber Britt, Emily Cooper, Janelle Coulter, Prism Garcia, Iesha Iwobi, Amanda Klinchuch, Alexandrea Kruthers, and Michelle Thompson.

Women's Tennis had all four eligible non-freshman qualify, as Sarah Cantlay, Anna Jeczmionka, Klaudia Malenovska, and Karolina Rozenberg all were honored, while women's golf saw both Ashley Greer and Bow-Kay Salotti garner recognition, and five women's water polo players were named: Rachel Cretcher, Justine Morgan, Kelly Ringel, Coriann Snyder, and Nicole Van Derhoof.

The Dirtbags had two players merit honors in Jeff McNeil and Nick Sabo, while softball had four players recognized in Emily Gregorio, Nalani St. Germain, Brianna Stephan, and Loni Tyler.

Twelve 49ers were honored after the fall sports season, bringing the total on the year for Long Beach State to 47.
