LBSU Marketing Claims Five National Awards

June 23, 2015 Long Beach, Calif. - The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) selected its 2014-15 national marketing award winners, which were recognized during NACMA's 24th Annual Convention at the awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 16 in Orlando, Florida.

Long Beach State's marketing team claimed five total national awards, bringing the department's total to 13 in the past six years. The five awards is the most of any school in the nation for 2014-15 and is a school record.

The Beach marketing team also finished in the top-5 for the final NACMA Marketing Team of the Year rankings, which is the most prestigious annual honor given out by the Association. The Marketing Team of the Year Award was created by NACMA to show the significant impact a marketing team has not only on the athletics department, but the campus and surrounding community as well. The top-5 finish was amongst prestigious company; The University of Maryland finished first, followed by the University of Arizona and Brigham Young University.

"Our team embraces the underdog, blue collar mindset that has made this city special and takes pride in creating local, regional and national attention," said Senior Associate Athletics Director, Dedan Brozino. "It is both humbling and rewarding for the team to be rewarded for their commitment to the department, campus and surrounding Long Beach community -- making Beach home events one of the best entertainment options in the region."

In 2014-15, the LBSU marketing team consisted of Kirsten Makowiec (Director of Marketing), Kelli Gill (Assistant Director of Marketing), Dale Johnson (Director of New Media and Video), Heather Schiraldi (Marketing Assistant) and Chris Winans (Marketing Assistant).

LBSU's five awards followed up last year's total of three, giving the Beach eight total in a two-year span. The five awards were claimed from 13 total categories.

The infamous Super Beach Bros video, which went viral and was seen in over 120 countries in the first 48 hours of its release won Gold in the popular Promotional Video category. Long Beach State also claimed silver in the Interactive/Social Media Program category and bronze in the New Revenue-Generating Idea, Sponsorship Activation and Promotional T-Shirt Design categories.

Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Best of Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 13 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. Nearly 1,000 entries were received for the 2014-15 year.
