Greetings from the Head Coach

Welcome! We are excited to open the doors to our world-class facility for the first time to the youth of the surrounding communities. With over 70 years of collective collegiate coaching experience, our staff is poised to share a wealth of information and skill concepts with each individual participant.

When each camp is finished, we expect each participant to have developed a deeper understanding of the movements required to perform better in the sport. We also expect that this understanding will translate into improved skills and performances.

Whether participating in our youth camps, elite camps, or conditioning camps, we place an emphasis on making the experience positive and encouraging so that our campers leave excited and ready to further their enjoyment in sports.

Go Beach!!!

About Long Beach State Track and Field

Long Beach State Track & Field is a program built from the ground up through development. Our focus is on the progression of the student-athlete as a whole; physically, academically, and psychologically. The Program has been defined and refined with head coach Andy Sythe at the helm for the last 29 years. Within that time Long Beach State has become the most decorated Men's program in the Big West Conference history. With 6 championships in the last 10 years and total of 13 Conference Championships in program history. At the National Level Long Beach State Staff has mentored 290 NCAA Regional Qualifiers, 105 Individual NCAA National Qualifiers and 14 Individual NCAA Champions.

Camp Philosophy

Just as our program has been built through development, so too are our camps. Each camp is specifically intended to maximize individual potential and insure growth. Our goal is to provide the best quality experience and knowledge so that the athletes have the understanding and the tools necessary to succeed beyond our track gates.

About Facilities

Long Beach State's recently renovated track facility offers athletes a world-class home to train and compete. The state-of-the-art complex features a 9-lane track that is NCAA, USATF and IAAF certified. The desirable European oval design offers wide radius turns with 48-inch lanes. The shorter straightaway feature of the track creates a longer, smoother curve than the typical 100-by-100-meter configuration.

This longer, smoother curve has given our facility the reputation as one of the fastest tracks in the United States, if not the world. The field event areas consist of dual infield competition throwing circles for shot put, dual infield discus rings, dual javelin runways, an outside competition hammer/discus ring, and two outside shot put throwing pads for additional training and competitions. The jumping areas consist of dual infield, side-by-side approaches for high jump, and dual parallel runways for long/triple jumps and pole vault that can be reversed for wind conditions, if needed.

The dual runways and throwing rings offer the ability to hold multiple-event competitions, allowing the University to host top-level invitational meets as well as national championships. The University's unique location near the Pacific Ocean will also allow the facility to take advantage of optimal, on-shore wind conditions for all jumping, throwing, and sprinting events.

Camps will be offering instruction to participants in both half and full day sessions.

All Sports Speed, Agility, Power Camps
